Helping tenants to find a deposit

Various schemes are now in operation to help potential tenants to access the private rented sector where they otherwise might not be able to gain accommodation because of the difficulties in raising either a deposit or rent in advance.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council have recently launched a Rent Deposit Scheme and Rent in Advance Scheme. This provides tenants with the necessary cash in the form of an interest free loan. Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council operate a Rent Deposit Guarantee Scheme. Further information can be found on the Councils website or by contacting 01782 635200 or 01782 742419.

Stafford Borough Council have a Rent Assistance Scheme. This offers a deposit guarantee or a rent guarantee in the form of a written guarantee to landlords. Further information can be obtained by contacting the Councils Housing Advice Team on 01785 619 353.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council have a Rent Deposit Scheme that offers a cash deposit in the form of an interest free loan.
